Choirs and Ensembles
Many years’ experience as a member of the BBC Singers, and five years on the road with The Swingle Singers have given Micaela a unique set of skills as an ensemble singer.
She has a relatively “straight” voice, and a versatile sound that will blend easily with the singers around her. She is highly regarded by her fellow musicians, is easy-going, sight-reads quickly and has a legendary sense of rhythm.
As well as the Swingle Singers and the BBC Singers, Micaela has sung with The Sixteen, Tenebrae, The Tallis Scholars, London Voices, Dunedin Consort, Cappella Nova, The Deller Consort and many others.
Backing Vocals
Micaela is a chameleon in the pop world – blending into whatever vocal sound is required. She is reliable and quick, and can assemble the right team of backing vocalists for any gig. Micaela is a regular go-to for Jules Buckley, The Heritage Orchestra, the Metropole Orkest, and has sung live for Jacob Collier, Kurt Elling, Goldie, Anna Calvi, These New Puritans, Henry Priestman – and for many others in studio.
Solo
Most of Micaela’s work is with Synergy Vocals, one voice to a part, though she wouldn’t refer to it as “solo”. Synergy Vocals’ repertoire is all about teamwork. That said, Micaela always relishes an opportunity to perform the solo piece Four Proverbs by Michael Torke. Another party-piece is Berio’s Sequenza 111, which she performed in the Lincoln Center for the New York Philharmonic’s complete Sequenza series. Micaela regularly sings all the vocal works of Steve Reich, with whom she has collaborated for over 20 years. Steve Mackey wrote Dreamhouse with her voice in mind. Likewise James MacMillan’s Since it was the Day of Preparation... She is also a favourite of Louis Andriessen who has publicly praised her performances of De Staat, De Stijl, La Commedia and Tao.
